4-wheel pedal car plans
Build your own pedal car out of bicycle parts! Save gas and the planet by driving this "green" self-propelled
vehicle wherever you need to go. Customize the paint color and add accessories like a surrey top, lighting or a loud horn to make it your very own.
These plans are for making various configurations of a simple 4-wheel one-seat cycle including a pedal car, surrey, and race car.
Other options include replacing the pedal power with an electric or gas engine. Dimensions of this unique homemade quadricycle are approximately 5 ft. long x 3 1/2 ft. wide but can be
modified to suit.
This is a four wheel bike you can use to cross the country. A complete set of plans with basic instructions is easy to build.
All architectural aluminum 6061-T6 is easy to work with and can be cut with a fine tooth skill saw or table saw with blade just peeking above the table. The other alternative is to take the gusset sheet to a sheet metal shop and have them sheared to dimension. All cuts are straight.
Commonly called monococque construction, it is used in many Formula One race cars. Parts to be joined are placed together and a couple rivet holes drilled. Faces to be joined are cleaned brushed with epoxy glue and POP riveted in place. After the epoxy cures, remaining holes in the pattern are drilled and remaining rivets POPPED.
Parts are easy to find off-the-shelf items.
Basic tools required are electric drill with bits and de-burr tool, vibrator sander (optional) POP rivet gun, meter stick, hand square, Die steel blue marker and a scribe. A center punch for drilling holes greatly improves accuracy. A builders’ square is a must.
Wheel base………………57 inches
Track………………………37 to 50 inches, Builder’s choice
Wheel size…………………26 inch shown…smaller wheels optional.
This set of pedal car plans are printed in black and white on roll paper and include (1) 36" x 48" sheet and (3) 36" x 24" sheets of detailed cad assembly drawings
of frame and top configuration, steering mechanism, and wiring for lights. Lightweight aluminum parts specified.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Our plans are designed to be simple enough to be understood by the do-it-yourselfer but are NOT "step-by-step" instructions. Actual construction of items using these plans may require specialized engineering knowledge, tools and building/manufacturing/fabrication expertise.
Although we appreciate feedback to improve our designs, we do NOT provide engineering advice or consultation services.
